Would you like to give your time to help KCIL to support disabled people and older adults in Kingston?
KCIL is looking for people to help us to support disabled people in Kingston. If you volunteer for KCIL you can give as little or as much of your time as you wish. You can volunteer for a one-off event or you can give your time on a regular basis, for example several hours a month.
How will volunteering at KCIL benefit you?
Many people choose to do volunteering as it provides opportunities to:
· Develop new skills
· Meet new people
· Develop new career opportunities
KCIL provides all volunteers with a full induction and ongoing support. In addition to this, you may be able to get further training. We also ensure that volunteers are never out of pocket by reimbursing volunteers' expenses.
What types of volunteering opportunities are available at KCIL?
Office Volunteer
This involves coming to our office and giving your time during office hours. You may also be required to provide your support at a local venue if you are an event volunteer.
· Helping to organise our events
· Providing support at our events
· Providing admin support during busy periods
User Involvement Volunteer
This will involve working with other disabled people or older adults to ensure that you have a voice with KCIL and throughout the borough. It includes:
· Dealing with access issues
· Responding to local and national consultations
· Providing service users' perspective on KCIL interview panels
· Providing peer support
Community Volunteers
This may involve supporting KCIL to:
· Raise awareness of disability issues
· Promote our work and services
· Raise funds to ensure that we can continue the work that we do in Kingston.
Online Volunteers
Volunteering online means you can make a contribution to our work without leaving your home or office. Other advantages include not being restricted to giving your time during KCIL's office hours - you can volunteer at any time and from any place. To be an online volunteer you will need to have access to a computer with email and internet facility. This work may include:
· taking part in our online polls
· putting forward ideas for campaigns or providing feedback on our work
· participating in online consultations
· providing online peer support
· moderating an online forum
· writing copy for Kingston Independent or the KCIL website
· proof reading articles for publication in the KCIL newsletter or online
