Proposed Changes to DLA Could Breach Human Rights Law

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF version

Recent plans to overhaul Disability Living Allowance (DLA) are being challenged by leading disability charities. The government insists that the changes are being brought in to simplify the system but the reality is that the whole process is about making savings.

Consultation on the new benefit, Personal Independence Payment, which is being brought in to replace DLA, started in December 2010 and will close on 14th February 2011. It is important that disabled people take this opportunity to express their views on this proposal since it appears that the introduction of this new benefit may lead to some disabled people being worse off financially.
