Good news from the Rose Theatre, Kingston

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF version

In a recent edition of KCIL's quarterly newsletter, The Kingston Independent, we highlighted the experience of a young woman with learning disabilities who had a rather unfortunate experience when she attended the local theatre over Christmas.  KCIL, along with Kingston Mencap, contacted the Rose Theatre to raise some of our concerns about access for disabled people and as a result the theatre has set up a Disability Awareness Committee.   The group's remit is to explore and implement possibilities for better access to performances for people with learning disabilities, and members include theatre staff, a carer and representatives from local service providers such as KCIL, Mencap and RBK. KCIL is keen to hear from people who have experience of, or ideas for, creating fully inclusive [performance] art spaces for people with learning disabilities so that we can ensure the Rose Theatre develops into an accessible resource for everyone.
